Quirks/Eccentricities:
- Uses a lot of British slang / insults, favorite being "Bellend"
- Carries a bag of supplies (water, laptop, countertop meds, usb drives etc) almost everywhere he goes.
- Loves cats, and will drop almost everything for a stray - mostly due to his rescue cat, Tibit.
- His left leg was injured when he was a kid, and now wears a leg-brace. This limits his mobility greatly. Said brace is visible for everyone.
- Fidgets with his hat when nervous.
- Shuts down if flirted with, regardless who it is. (If friends with the person, will swat them on the arm).
Dos and Don’ts when writing your character:
- Don't make him cuss overtly if he isn't angry.
- Don't let him try physical violence as a first option. He’s not dumb enough for that.
- Don't let him lie in an article. To get out of the situation, yes, but never in an article.
- Don't downplay his leg-injury (he cannot, for example, run. He can, however, duck and roll.)
- He records everything, though usually without the recorder being seen.
- Keep his sarcasm and dry wit when he can get away with it without some dire consequences.
- Please do not harm the cat without discussing it with me first, or at the very least without giving me a heads up.
Beliefs, Values and Desires:
- He believes that truth is one of the strongest forces of them all, and devastating in the wrong hands or if handled poorly.
- He believes that hard work is its own reward - his job might be thankless, but someone has to do it.
- He values honest folk that stand up for others, even if he knows he's not that.
- Uncovering truth / revealing deceit and corruption is one of his biggest desires - being able to help others with his talent for finding things meant to be hidden gives meaning for his life.
Backstory:
Tobias' backstory was nothing to write home about. Born to a teenager and raised in an orphanage, Tobias never got to know his birth family, and he quite frankly never cared enough to check. In every way, he was just another generic child in the system, with generic friends and generic grades, only a few scrapes and bruises he gained from trying to learn wrestling.
Well aside from a bully that decided that Tobias' slightly shorter size and dry wit were not welcome within his vicinity, especially since he was also into wrestling. It started small - making fun of him, light shoves, isolation. Then it started to escalate - trips down the stairs, stronger shoves, punches to the gut.
One fateful day, Tobias was pushed out of a window. An accident, for sure, meant as a scare. However, Tobias fell from three stories up - it was only luck that kept him alive, his left leg taking the brunt of the damage.
The bully almost got away with it, and for the first two months it was a grueling ordeal. However, Tobias, the moment he was recovered enough to move around, decided to do some investigative work - and found some of the conclusive evidence, allowing him to get a criminal record on the said bully and a restraining order.
Due to his experiences with digging dirt to get some justice served, and having his other future plans trashed thanks to his possibly permanently injured leg, he took on a path of investigator and a reporter.
Somewhere down the line, he adopted his cat, Tibit, and dotes on the feline all the time.
During the happenings of 2022 revolving around Jerry Watkins, Tobias was quick to head over and see for himself what the scoop really was - while he wasn’t physically able to be a wrestler anymore, his love for the sport hadn’t waned, and he figured this might be the only thing he can give to the community.
Add in GLOBAL and their start, and well… Tobias would have his meal-ticket covered as well, while on clue hunting.
